Within the Dynamic Model of Relapse, describe the concept of distress tolerance.

What will be an ideal response?

The extent to which an individual can tolerate psychological and physical distress dictates how well he or she can maintain the cessation of an addictive behavior despite the distress of withdrawal (Brandon et al., 2007). Low distress tolerance is associated with negative treatment outcomes for SUDs (Daughters et al., 2005; Hsu, Collins, & Marlatt, 2013). In addition, some studies show that pretreatment distress tolerance (i.e., the baseline tolerance ability prior to treatment) predicts treatment outcome (Brandon et al., 2007; Hsu, Collins, & Marlatt, 2013).
