What are the termination codons of translation and how do they mediate termination?

What will be an ideal response?

Ans: The three termination codons are UAA, UAG and UAA. They are not recognized by any aminoacyl-tRNAs but instead are recognized by the class 1 release factors, RF1 and RF2, which catalyze transfer of the polypeptide to water and the polypeptide from the ribosome. Then the class 2 release factor RF3 releases the class 1 RF and the ribosome recycling factor, RRF, is ultimately responsible for release of the mRNA and dissociation of the 30S and 50S subunits.
