How does an ARP request work?

What will be an ideal response?

If a source computer cannot locate an IP to MAC address mapping in its ARP table, it must obtain the correct mapping because both an IP and MAC address for the source and destination are required to send data. To do this, the device initiates an ARP request to gain the destination's MAC address.

A source computer broadcasts an ARP request to all hosts on the local segment. Each device determines whether the frame is destined for its IP address. The one device that discovers that the ARP request broadcast frame is destined for its IP address responds to the ARP request.
