Why is it important for a suspect to have an attorney during custodial interrogation?
What will be an ideal response?
Answer should indicate that before the 1930s, police used tactics such as beatings, torture, tricks, and threats to elicit confessions. Even with these tactics banned, many suspects give false confessions under stress. A suspect should have an attorney with them during questioning so that they do not incriminate themselves.
