A franchise is a contract between the franchisor and the franchisee. It exists when one licenses another party to use its trademarks, patents, copyrights or other property in the distribution of goods and services. Franchisees agree to pay a fee for the use of the franchisor’s name, creation of its product, advertising and procurements. Many franchisors are multi-national corporations which are able to sell its product in a widespread market through the use of franchisees. The franchisor and the franchisee still operate independently, but share resources. Through franchises, there is protection for the consumer who can be assured of greater product quality.
