Discuss the Incredible Years program. What are its components, who and what does it focus on and what are the proven positive outcomes?

What will be an ideal response?

The Incredible Years (IY) program is based on cognitive social learning theory, modeling and self-efficacy, attachment and relationship theories, cognitive brain developmental theories, and problem-solving methods. Aimed at offending caregivers, the primary goals of IY include the reduction of harsh or critical parenting techniques and increasing the effectiveness of parental discipline strategies, increased use of positive parenting skills, and creating safe and predictable home environment for children. Treatment includes vignettes of parent-caregiver situations followed by discussion and role-plays. Homework assignment and at-home practice are an essential part of the program. It has been created for use with caregivers of children infancy through 12 years, which can be implemented with children 3–8 years, and childcare providers for children 1–5 years. Trials showed a significant increase in caregivers’ use of positive behavioral management.
