Explain how knowing the type of CVA is an important factor in planning care

What will be an ideal response?

The primary difference between the types of strokes is in the medical management. An ischemic
stroke, caused by the occlusion of a cerebral artery by either a thrombus or an embolus, can be
treated by fibrinolytic therapy. Patients who have had an embolic stroke might be placed on
anticoagulant therapy; anticoagulants and fibrinolytic therapy are contraindicated in a patient who
has had a hemorrhagic stroke.
