Explain why Mendel choose seven different varieties of pea plants for his experiments

What will be an ideal response?

Mendel chose seven different varieties of pea plants because each had a different, distinguishing characteristic called a trait. Each trait was represented by two variations: For example, plant height is the trait, tall and short are the variations; pea shape is the trait, and the variations are wrinkled and smooth peas; and so forth. In his experiments, he wanted to see how traits such as height or pea shape were passed from generation to generation.
