• As this definition suggests, sexual harassment can occur in various forms, including supervisor–subordinate harassment, subordinate–supervisor harassment, and peer– peer harassment. It also occurs in other types of institutions. Although most reported cases of sexual harassment involve the harassment of women by men, the victim as well as the harasser may be a woman or a man.
• Studies continue to confirm that women hold a small percentage of the top positions. Although more women have moved up the corporate ladder, many of them have encountered a variety of barriers as they tried to enter the lucrative and prestigious top positions of their occupations.
• As previously mentioned, the glass ceiling exists in many occupations and professions. Underrepresentation of women in athletic administration positions may be partly attributed to the perceived view among those doing the hiring that masculinity—as evidenced by attributes such as aggressiveness and competitiveness—is necessary to successfully perform these management roles.
