Evaluate the tissue healing response following periodontal debridement of a periodontitis case
What will be an ideal response?
Histologically, in periodontitis, after the removal of dental plaque, calculus, and necrotic cementum, some healing will occur. In most patients, healing occurs by repair rather than regeneration (e.g., formation of new bone, cementum, and periodontal ligament). Histologically, repair of the root epithelial interface has been described as a long junctional epithelial attachment that prevents the formation of a new connective tissue attachment. Research has shown, however, that the presence of a long junctional epithelium does not represent an area of less resistance to infection.
