How has human activity added to eutrophication of freshwater lakes?

What will be an ideal response?

The addition of various chemical compounds to the environment can have a variety of effects on the ecosystem. One example is the addition of phosphorus into the environment by runoff from fertilizers used in farming areas. When phosphorus levels increase, algae populations grow exponentially and form algal blooms over the surface. Many lower-level organisms die as a result, and decomposers consume a lot of oxygen. A major consequence of these events is the depletion of oxygen, which ultimately affects fish populations that can't tolerate low levels of the gas.
