Critically evaluate the convergence theory of collective behavior.
What will be an ideal response?
Answers will vary. Convergence theories are useful in describing crowds that are deliberate and planned, but have several limitations. They do not explain why some people who share the same perspectives join a protest, rally, or demonstration while others do not, and do not account for the shifts in crowd behavior, no matter how well planned(Berk, 1974; McPhail, 1991).
