What are the conditions to receive family temporary disability insurance benefits?
Workers who take time off to care for a seriously ill child, spouse, domestic partner, or who take time off to bond with a newborn child, adopted child or child, placed through foster care are eligible for up to six weeks of "family temporary disability insurance benefits." The worker must make a claim for the benefits with the state Disability Insurance Program, and will begin receiving benefits after a seven-day waiting period. No more than six weeks of benefits may be received within any twelve-month period. Workers who are already receiving unemployment compensation, state disability benefits, or any other temporary disability benefits under state or federal law are not eligible to receive family temporary disability insurance benefits.
