On the upside, hiring higher-quality and ethically strong employees will improve an
organization’s culture. Ethics screening can help bring this kind of employee to the
company, which makes the lives of other employees better and improves organizational functioning. Allowing morally inappropriate hires into the organization can actually increase the unethical behavior of other employees, which can be a slippery slope.
There are essentially no downsides to including ethics screening in the hiring process. Some of its components will cost the company more money, but the long-term benefits, including organizational and financial performance, will outweigh these upfront costs.
