Examine the system, analyze the problem, and make an initial determination of what is the source of the problem. 3. Test your theory. If the theory is not confirmed, form another theory or escalate the problem to someone higher in your organization with more experience or resources. 4. After you know the source of the problem, plan what to do to fix the problem and then fix it. 5. Verify the problem is fixed and that the system works. Take any preventive measures to make sure the problem doesn't happen again. 6. Document activities, outcomes, and what you learned.
