What is the difference between criticism and contempt?

Criticism occurs when one attacks a partner's personality or character rather than a specific behavior. Where as, contempt is behavior that is designed to insult and psychologically harm the partner. So a criticism might be a statement like "you are a lazy slob," where contempt would be a statement saying "you are a pathetic excuse for a human being."
