Define "reflective listening" and give an example of conversation utilizing this skill

What will be an ideal response?

Reflective listening involves paying close attention to a person's verbal and emotional (nonverbal) messages and respectfully acknowledging their perspective. During the course of the communication exchange, we should occasionally seek clarification from family members by saying things such as, "When you said ___________, did you mean ________? I want to make sure I understand." Or, "Am I understanding you correctly when you say ________?" By taking time to repeat in our own words what we think the message is, "So you are feeling angry because I didn't call after work..." we are both clarifying and validating the message we are receiving.
