Should include the growth of the international population in the United States and increased involvement of American counseling professionals in international communities; the need to contribute to defining the mission and meaning of counseling practices in the 21st century; international movement has reached its crescendo with more practitioners, researchers, and educators involved; need to train professionals to respond at an international level because of felt need to respond to crisis situations around the world in the sense of counselors without borders; and the need for counselors to understand the socialization process of people in their cultural contexts, how these affect behaviors, and ways to integrate knowledge of the socialization process of clients into cross-cultural counseling.
