The modus operandi is the choice to commit a particular crime and the method the suspect uses to commit the crime. Not all suspects have a signature or modus of operandi. Some benefits of a modus operandi are: giving officer's information to keep in databases to solve later crimes by known suspects and unknown suspects, aids in building cases, and is basic leads for many different crime categories.
