In a structured interview should the person being interviewed be encouraged to be an active part of the discussion? If so, why? If not, why not?

What will be an ideal response?

Encourage the individual to participate actively and to report information rather than just respond to the questions that are asked. Do not volunteer information about the case or the suspect when conducting an interview. Ask open-ended questions frequently and do not interrupt the person who is making a statement. Record the statements accurately and completely. If it is practicable, take notes during the interview. As soon as possible after the interview, write the full statement down using the witness’s own words.
