How is planning for a first session different than planning for a middle or closing session?

What will be an ideal response?

When planning for a first session, the leader will need to consider member and leader introductions, clarify the purpose of the group, set a positive tone, help members overcome their uneasiness, and review group rules or guidelines. During middle sessions, the leader needs to plan exercises that address the purpose of the group and facilitate sharing at deeper levels. During the closing sessions, the leader will want to ensure that members have the opportunity to say and do the things necessary to terminate the group.
