Discuss the features of grand juries.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. Grand juries are impaneled, or created, for a period of time usually not exceeding three months. For the most part, grand jury proceedings are dominated by the prosecution, which can present a wide variety of evidence against the defendant, including photographs, documents, tangible objects, and the testimony of witnesses. Generally speaking, grand juries differ from criminal trials in the following ways:1. Jurors can ask the district attorney and the judge questions about relevant law and can request that witnesses be recalled to the stand to testify a second time.2. The defense cannot cross-examine prosecution witnesses, though it can present its own witnesses.3. The proceedings are closed (secret). Witnesses can speak publicly, but only about their own testimony. Members of the grand jury are not allowed to speak to the media.
