Discuss the two major pathways along which the brain sends signals to the endocrine system in response to stress

What will be an ideal response?

In the first pathway, the hypothalamus activates the sympathetic division of the ANS. A key part of the activation involves stimulating the central part of the adrenal gland to release large amounts of catecholamines into the blood stream that radiate throughout the body producing the physiological changes seen in the fight-or-flight response.

The second pathway involves more direct communication between the brain and the endocrine system. The hypothalamus sends signals to the pituitary gland (the master gland), which in turn secretes ACTH (a hormone) that stimulates the outer portion of the adrenal gland telling it to release corticosteroids. This helps increase energy and inhibit tissue inflammation in case of injury.
