A closed question is the opposite of an open-ended question. It is narrow in focus and limited in terms of possible responses. “Do you know how to use Adobe Illustrator?” is a sample of a closed question. Interviewers will typically use open-ended questions when they wish to learn more about an interviewee and their skills or knowledge about a particular topic. Interviewers are more likely to use closed questions when they want general and specific pieces of information from the interviewee, such as whether they have experience or skills in a particular area.
