b. Emotional abuse is defined as verbal and psychological violence that inflicts emotional trauma using acts, threats of acts, or coercive tactics (CDC, 2014). This type of IPV may include humiliation, coercive control, isolation, and degradation of an intimate partner, as well as economic abuse, and psychological destabilization (i.e., making someone feel crazy; Tolman, 1989).
