Discuss the cues for detecting deception
What will be an ideal response?
Some lies involve false information, so trying to hide the truth requires some cognitive effort. This can result in heightened attention, longer pauses in speech, and more constrained movement and gesturing. Liars tend to repeat distorted details of the story. While trying to hide one's true feelings, the liar may become physically and behaviorally more aroused. Bodily clues are hard to control than facial clues. Only in genuine smiles do the eye muscles crinkle up the skin on either side of the eyes. Those who lie, cannot look others in the eye as their gaze is averted; there is reduced blinking, and less smiling.
