What is Affirmative Action? What are your thoughts on Affirmative Action at Universities?

What will be an ideal response?

Varies. Affirmative action refers to programs that are intended to reduce the effects of past discrimination or increase diversity in workplaces in schools. Affirmative Action may be used in University admission processes as a way of providing equitable opportunity to students of color. It is believed that students of color often must work harder than white counterparts to gain equal achievement. This may be due to the fact that students of color often have lower life chances than white counterparts. In addition to this, students of color may have lower social capital and cultural capital which makes navigating the process of higher education quite difficult. Affirmative Action works to acknowledge this and communicate that these struggles are understood.
