Indicate some of the consequences of our high rates of incarceration

What will be an ideal response?

For many observers, especially those who support the crime control theory of
o criminal justice, America's high rate of incarceration has contributed significantly to the drop in the country's crime rates.
Incarceration can have severe social consequences for communities and the families that make up those communities. When a parent is imprisoned, her or
o his children often suffer financial hardships, reduced supervision and discipline,
and a general deterioration of the family structure.
Our high rates of incarceration also deny one of the basic rights of American
o democracy—the right to vote—to about 5.3 million Americans with criminal
records.
