Interview an older person (say, 75 years or older) about what his or her city or community was like before 1950 in terms of meeting people's needs for shopping, participating in recreation, getting to school, work, and so on
Was it necessary to have a car?
Several good locations to meet people who are 75 or older are senior citizen centers, nursing homes, and churches, synagogues, and other religious institutions. One could volunteer to work with an organization that brings in cats or dogs to visit with individuals living in senior facilities. Asking a person in a friendly way about what life was like 50 years ago or more will generally elicit a great deal of information.
