Provide a detailed description and discussion of the Rock Cycle. Provide specific examples of

each of the three rock families. What will be an ideal response?

The student should be able to describe the formation of the three rock families: igneous,
metamorphic, and sedimentary. The student also should recognize that there are cross-paths
within the Rock Cycle. For example, metamorphic rocks may be uplifted and weathered to form
sediments and sedimentary rocks. The term “lithification” also should be part of the discussion.
