Describe the mechanisms of heat loss during exercise
What will be an ideal response?
Evaporation is the primary means of dissipating heat during exercise. The body releases heat when sweat on the skin is converted to a gas (water vapor). When humidity is high, evaporation is limited, and the body can overheat. Convective heat loss (convection) occurs only when the air or water molecules moving over the body surface are cooler than skin temperature, such as when exercising outdoors on a cold day or swimming in cold water.
