Detained Immigrant Work ConditionsDescription: Immigrants at a detention center in Denver are working under harsh conditions with the threat of solitary confinement if they refuse to work. When they are paid, it is as little as $1 per day. These detention centers are privately owned and the immigrants residing there may or may not have criminal charges--it is simply a holding space until their case is heard. GEO is one of the largest contractors with the United States federal government and GEO states that the work is "voluntary" and that the $1 per day pay is sufficient with regard to federal guidelines--a pay guideline set in 1950.Click on the above link to access the Interactive eBook.
