What is intellectual property?
What would be an ideal response?
The law recognizes intellectual property as the right of an inventor, writer, or artist to
own his or her creations and prevent others from copying or using these creations
without permission. If intellectual property rights are violated, courts may award the
plaintiff profits earned by the offender or damages. Three common types of intellectual
property rights are patents, trademarks, and copyrights.
