Explain what it means for qualitative methods to be utilize a reflexive research design and be sensitive to the subjective role of the researcher. How is this different from quantitative methods?
What will be an ideal response?
When researchers are making observations in a social setting, there is little control over the setting or social actors within the setting. For this reason, the design must be open to change. As such, remaining reflexive during this process will allow for how they can change the study if needed. Being reflective also means that qualitative researchers have to focus on their own relation to the material and their interpretations of it. This is different from quantitative methods because they way quantitative methods are designed is to be objective. In addition, their interpretations tend to be based on objective qualities of their measures and theory, rather than their personal feelings or experiences with research subjects.
