The individual has recurrent intense sexual urges and sexually arousing fantasies involving sexual activity with a prepubescent child or children. According to the American Psychiatric Association, the children are aged 13 or younger and a person with pedophilic disorder must be at least 16 and at least 5 years older than the child. A late adolescent is not considered to have pedophilic disorder if he or she is involved in an ongoing sexual relationship with a 12-year-old or older child.
