What alternative HR organising models could SMEs and family-run businesses use? Outline the strengths and limitations of these alternatives.
What will be an ideal response?
? Whilst it is unlikely that an SME would employ a permanent HR specialist/team
(due to costs) within its ranks, it may be feasible to encourage a current member
of staff to engage in some HR training (perhaps accredited training by the CIPD
for example) so seek the internal development of this expertise.
? This then secures important HR knowledge within the organisation and, over the
longer term at least, may be more cost-effective.
? However, what if one was to lose this employee? This important knowledge
would then be lost and would have to be replaced. Thus, it is essential to decide
whether this is a feasible course of action and if so to select the right person for
this training.
