Elaborate on a situation where a leader could not use the rational decision-making process in practice, and why.
What will be an ideal response?
Examples could include managers sometimes fail to identify the problem correctly
at the start of the decision-making process. Also, some only consider a few alternatives
rather than a broad set of possible options. They may only consider the most obvious
alternatives, failing to brainstorm creative solutions. Managers sometimes suboptimize
rather than choose an optimal alternative resulting in lose–lose decisions. Finally,
decisions are sometimes made without complete information due to the lack of
availability of information relevant to the problem or due to time pressure.
