Explain why The Common Core Standards are important

What will be an ideal response?

The Common Core Standards identify what every child in every state and in every school district should know and be able to do. This is significant in that, with CCS, the expectations are the same for all children, regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds, their culture, their race or ethnicity, their abilities and disabilities, or where they go to school. In this sense, standards level the educational playing field and help ensure that all students learn the same content and will achieve at a high level. Implementing standards is one way to help close the achievement gap.
