Describe phylogenomics and its contributions to phylogenetic relationships between protists and other
eukaryotes.
What will be an ideal response?
Phylogenomics is a type of analysis that utilizes molecular data to compare sequences of whole
genomes, or large segments of genomes. Phylogenomics has clearly illustrated relationships between
protists, plants, animals and fungi, including the most ancient bifurcation of eukaryotes: bikonts
(which contain the plants) and unikonts (which contains animals and fungi).
