The main functions of the presentation layer are: to convert EBCDIC-coded or Unicode-coded text to the ASCII-coded text, to convert the encrypted information to decrypted information, and to convert the compressed data to decompressed data that is used widely in audio and video in order to provide usable data to destination. The presentation layer also controls security at the file level.
