Briefly explain the four main reasons why we need to learn about groups
What will be an ideal response?
The number one reason to learn about how groups function is that they are so
prevalent in the workplace. Thus, learning about groups helps us become more effective
employees. Second, groups meet personal needs. The three main needs we possess that can be
fulfilled by group memberships are: inclusion, affection, and control. Third, learning about
groups can enhance our problem solving skills. Groups are better at problem solving than
individuals through their combined knowledge and experiences. Finally, learning more about
groups can help combat the typically negative feelings individuals have about working in
groups.
