Compare and contrast spree murder, serial murder, and mass murder. What are the reasons the public has so little accurate knowledge of multiple murder?
What will be an ideal response?
Spree murder normally refers to the killing of three or more individuals without a cooling-off period, usually at two or three different locations. Some of these killings share characteristics of mass murders, while other seem more like serial murders. Serial murder usually refers to incidents in which an individual (or individuals) separately kills a number of people (usually a minimum of three) over time. Mass murder involves the killing of three or more persons at a single location with no cooling-off period between the killings. The FBI identifies two types of mass murder: classic and family. Multiple murder is often sensationalized and much of the public’s knowledge is based on misinformation and myth.

A. The suspects will either remain hidden, where they can be located and arrested, or be forced downward, where they may be apprehended by the cover team. B. If the suspect is forced upward by a search that starts in the basement of a structure, the individual may become more dangerous when cornered at the top of the building with no place to go, or he or she may escape over the roofs of other adjoining buildings. C. For tactical reasons, the search should begin at the top of the building whenever practicable and proceed downward systematically, if search personnel can start the search there without unnecessary risk.
