Why are deletions or insertions of nucleotides likely to be more detrimental than base substitutions?

What will be an ideal response?

Deletions or insertions of nucleotides lead to frame-shift mutations which alter the rest of the polypeptide after that point. Base substitutions may change an amino acid in a polypeptide chain which could result in a minor change, no change, or a catastrophic change in the polypeptide. Frame-shift mutations, especially occurring early in the nucleotide sequence, are more likely to cause serious consequences.
