Explain the difference between mala in se and mala prohibita crimes.

Mala in se crimes, or crimes that are inherently harmful because they generate strong emotional
responses in all victims of them. A core of acts that are universally condemned and criminalized.
Examples include murder, rape, assault, and theft. Acts not considered mala in se may or may not be
criminalized in a particular place at a particular time according to the social attitudes surrounding those
acts at the time. These are referred to as mala prohibita crimes.
