What are some factors that influence dating behavior? Give an example.
What will be an ideal response?
Dating can be considered a human universal. All people at some point search for a lover, mate, or
partner. Sometimes, this search can last an entire life span; other times, it is shorter. However, while
dating can be considered universal, its manifestations are not. They change over centuries and across
cultures. Also, there are individual differences in dating and mating behaviors, but it would be wrong to
think that any person is consistent in his or her dating behaviors; with maturation and a change of
priorities comes a change in dating behaviors.
*Examples can relate to any of these factors. For example, a student can compare cultures
today—Eastern, more restrained cultures, some even with arranged marriages, and Western cultures,
focused very much on love but also sexuality. Or a student can compare the dating behaviors of a young
man with those of the same man when he turns 30 or 40.
