Describe the provisions of the Federal Kidnapping Statute

• Kidnapping a person held for ransom, reward, or otherwise, who is transported in foreign in interstate or foreign commerce, or who uses any interstate process in furtherance of the kidnapping may be punished for any length of imprisonment, including life or death, if the death penalty is available.
• The statute is applicable if the kidnapping occurs within the maritime or air space jurisdiction of the United States, or the victim is a foreign dignitary or special guest of the U.S.
• If any federal employee is kidnapped while performing his/her official duties or because of his/her duties, the victim is taken in interstate commerce and the person is not released unharmed, the kidnapper may be punished by any term of imprisonment up to life, or death, if available, and if a jury so recommends.
