Why is saltatory conduction faster than continuous conduction? What will be an ideal response?

Concepts to Consider: In continuous conduction, action potentials smoothly progress down an axon.
Depolarization in one area causes adjacent voltage-gated ion channels to open, sodium ions to flow in,
etc. In saltatory conduction, axons are wrapped in myelin with only nodes of Ranvier being exposed to
extracellular fluid. Ion activity occurs only at nodes, so depolarization jumps from node to node down
the axon.
