Describe the basic components of Pump-202.
What will be an ideal response?
Pump-202 is a typical horizontally mounted centrifugal pump. Basics components include: suction, discharge, casing, impeller, volute, motor, coupling, bearings, and seals.
Pump 202 is a horizontally mounted centrifugal pump designed to operate at 225 GPM. Suction pressure is maintained at 40 psig and the discharge pressure typically runs at 135 psig. The differential pressure across the pump is 75 psig. This differential is necessary in order for the system to operate properly. The pressure is obtained as the control valve moves through 30% of its operating range on the discharge side of the pump. A back-up pump is provided to ensure continuous flow to the system. Pump 202 is designed to operate continuously, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Every six weeks the pumps are alternated for preventative maintenance purpose. The motors on P-202A/B are not variable speed and are designed to operate at full capacity, 1250 RPM. A protective cover is in place over the rotating parts of the pump. The motor is connected to a flexible coupling which is connected to a gear box where a speed-to-torque conversion occurs. Gear boxes are common devices used by the chemical processing industry. These devices are often part of the pump and provide the connection with the coupling and motor or driver.
