Imagine that all of the ventral roots of the lumbar region are severed, but the dorsal roots are left undamaged. What would be the expected symptoms?

What will be an ideal response?

The ventral roots carry motor impulses out to effectors. With the ventral roots severed the expected deficit is loss of motor control for all muscles controlled by the lumbar region of the spinal cord. This includes the thigh adductors and knee extensors. Additionally, since the dorsal roots are intact, there would still be sensation in the affected motor area.
