Explain how a wet-bulb thermometer works.

What will be an ideal response?

?Wet-bulb temperature is measured by a thermometer with a wick on the end that is soaked with distilled water. Both the wet-bulb and dry-bulb temperature readings are obtained at the same time by using an instrument referred to as a psychrometer. Some psychrometers are referred to as sling psychrometers that require that the thermometers be spun in an airstream. The wet-bulb thermometer will get cooler than the dry-bulb thermometer because of the evaporation of the distilled water. If the surrounding air is very dry, the moisture will evaporate quickly, causing the wet-bulb temperature to drop lower.
